Cultural program

An essential part of the course is our diverse cultural program which brings people to the course year after year. The cultural program is one of a kind in Finland: you will not get an opportunity to immerse yourself in the language and culture anywhere else!

By taking part in the cultural program, you can get familiar with Finnish culture and customs and get a chance to explore the beautiful Jyväskylä. The activities are led by native Finns, giving you a chance to practice your newly learned Finnish skills outside of the classroom, too!

Overall, we organize around 15–20 hours of cultural activities during the course. Some of the activities are included in the course fee (at least 10 hours), and some might have an additional fee. Our cultural program is one-of-a-kind in Finland, and it combines the best parts of Finnish winter and language learning through interesting and memorable experiences!

All cultural activities are guided by local course coordinators. Course participants can choose activities that they are interested in, or even take part in all of them if they want to! Registration for the cultural activities takes place during the course.

Examples from previous years' cultural programs:

  • Welcome evening, games, and getting to know each other
  • Sauna evening
  • Winter outdoor activities, e.g., ice skating, cross-country skiing, or sledging
  • Visit to a cultural site
  • Farewell evening

NB! The program varies from year to year and is always subject to change, e.g., due to weather.
