Intensive winter course in Finnish language and culture in Jyväskylä

48 teaching hours (á 45 min) in Finnish language, and at least 10 hours of cultural program + additional cultural activities!

Get to know Finnish language and lifestyle in an international atmosphere on the Intensive Winter Course organized by the Summer University of Jyväskylä!

The course is aimed at anyone over the age of 18 from anywhere in the world, who is interested in learning about Finnish language and culture. Language teaching is organized in skill level groups ranging from beginner level with some previous studies to upper intermediate (A1-B2). Please note that we do not offer a group for absolute beginners with no previous skills on this winter course. If your skill level is under A1, please consider taking part in our summer course instead.

The course has professional and highly motivated language teachers. Our staff is committed to making sure that you get the most out of your course in an inspiring atmosphere.

Language lessons take place during the day. Alongside official lessons our free time program organizes trips to nature, sightseeing and getting to know the Finnish way of life through various activities. During this course our students get to go on a diverse and intensive journey into Finnish language and culture.

Timetable

The intensive course in Finnish language and culture Winter 2025 will be organized January 27th - February 5th in Jyväskylä. Lessons take place daily at 9.15am to 3pm at Mattilanniemi campus, University of Jyväskylä.

Price

549€ / person
Early bird 499 € / person (until the end of October 2024)

Course price for students and staff at JAMK and JYU universities: 399 € 
Course price for unemployed living in Finland (documentation/"todistus työnhaun voimassaolosta" required): 399 €

Course fee includes an intensive language & culture program (2,760 minutes in total) consisting of daily Finnish language lessons (48 lessons á 45min) as well as at least 10 hours of cultural activities outside of lessons. We also offer extra cultural activities, some of which may have an additional fee.

You will receive a link for online payment via email in December.

Course fee does not include accommodation or meals. You will have a chance to eat lunch at the student cafeteria for 6-9 €/meal. See our tips for accommodation here.

 

There was an excellent mix of language study, cultural events, and festive events. The course was very well organized. The teachers and organizers were very available and motivated.

Registration will open September 1st 2024 at 9am. 
Registration ends December 14th. After this we will still accept registrations for the level groups with availability.

After we have received your registration, we will check it and contact you in case we need any additional information. You will also receive an info letter from us via email before the end of the year.

In case we don't get enough participants for your preferred level group, we will let you know immediately after the registration period has ended. In this case you will have a chance to join another level group or cancel your registration.

Participants

The course is aimed for anyone over the age of 18 from anywhere in the world, who is interested in learning Finnish language. Participants will be divided into groups according to their Finnish skill level. We require prior Finnish studies for the Winter course (see this years minimum requirements for group 1 on the registration page). If you have never participated on a Finnish course or studied Finnish independently, we recommend participating on our summer course instead.
