Enrollment, payments and cancellation terms
General information
Please read the following terms carefully before submitting your enrollment application. All enrollments are binding, and by enrolling you accept our rules and cancellation terms. If you have any questions about the course’s content, timetable etc., please contact our office: kesayo@jyu.fi.
The courses are all taught in Finnish, unless the course description says otherwise. In this text, the word “course” is used to describe all courses, trainings, seminars, events and other activities arranged by the Summer University.
If your chosen course is full, you can enroll on the waitlist when enrollment is still open. Our enrollment system will automatically inform you if there is a waiting list spot open. If a spot opens up, we will inform you via email.
After successfully enrolling in your chosen course, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive this email, please contact our office (kesayo@jyu.fi). Sometimes the confirmation email might end up in your spam folder, so please check that before contacting us.
Before the course starts, course invitations will be sent out to all participants via email. Please contact our office kesayo@jyu.fi if you have not received an invitation three (3) days before the course starts. Please also check your spam folder.
Terms of enrollment
Before enrolling, please note the following:
- Enrollment must be done before the date mentioned in the course description. It is suggested that you enroll early so that you can ensure your place on the course.
- Enrollment is always binding. When enrolling you commit to paying for the course or the study unit you are enrolling in.
- If the participant is a minor the enrollment form must include the information of both the child as well as the payer (guardian).
- Study fees are not tied to study credits.
- The Summer University reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the course due to a lack of participants or other compelling reasons. In this case you will be fully refunded.
- The Summer University of Jyväskylä will not provide insurance for course participants. We recommend leisure time accident insurance for everyone who participates in our courses. Accident insurance is mandatory for everyone participating in our trips and excursions. Please check that your travel insurance also includes a sufficient cancellation policy in case of illness.
Instructions and terms for enrolling in open university studies
- If you are enrolling in a whole study unit (for example Basic Studies in Art, 25 ECTs), you do not have to enroll in single courses separately. If you are planning on completing some of the courses within a study unit, you should enroll only in those courses.
- When enrolling you also commit to paying a possible registration fee for a collaborating university if the fee was mentioned in the course description.
- In case of a student cancelling or dropping out the remaining courses in a study unit will not be refunded.
- Students at the University of Jyväskylä are eligible for a discount for the open university courses offered at the Summer University of Jyväskylä. However, open university studies or courses must be included in your bachelor's or master's degree. Postgraduate students are not eligible for this discount. In order to get a discount a student must provide a form signed by their HOPS (personal study plan)-instructor. A student must provide this certificate when enrolling in a course, and the signed document should be sent to this address: jenni.j.panula-ontto@jyu.fi. This discount is not applicable to a possible registration fee for the host university. The discount is only for open university studies at the Summer University, not for our professional supplementary education/ further vocational training courses. (More information in Finnish can be found here)
Payments
- The course payment is done through the Paytrail online payment service while enrolling. In some cases you will not be able to pay for the course during enrollment. In that case an invoice or a link for online payment will be sent to you via email.
- We use Paytrail payment methods: Finnish online banks, mobile payments (Siirto, MobilePay and Pivo), credit cards (Visa Electron, Visa and Mastercard), as well as invoices and instalment payments (OP Lasku, OP tililuotto, Walley, and Alisa business invoice).
- If the payment is unsuccessful, do not enroll again and please contact the Summer University office (kesayo@jyu.fi).
- If the course payment is not paid while enrolling, the invoices will primarily be sent as a payment link or a PDF file. Paper invoices will only be sent by request.
- If the course payment can be done in instalments, it will be stated in the course description. The description will include the full price of the course, as well as information about the number of instalments. The course payment will be invoiced in the stated instalments, or you can choose to pay by OP Lasku or OP tililuotto.
- Unpaid course payments can lead to the study right being revoked. Revoking a study right does not affect the already invoiced course payments, and the invoice must be paid by the due date.
- Course and study payments are collectible (Law n:o 706/2007). Unpaid invoices will be transferred to a collection agency after the due date.

Invoicing an employer or other organisation
- If the course is paid by an employer or some other organisation, the online enrollment form should include the information of the payer. After enrollment the Summer University office will send an invoice to the payer.
- Before enrolling, please find out the exact invoice address of the organisation (usually an e-invoicing address). Please note that it is not always the same as the visiting address.
- If the course payment is invoiced from an employer or other organisation, a 5-euro charge will be added to the invoice.
- If the payer mentioned in the invoice information does not pay the invoice, the payment will be collected from the course participant.
Cancellation terms
The cancellation terms are the following, unless stated otherwise:
- If you cannot attend the course, please inform our office as soon as possible in written form: kesayo@jyu.fi
- If cancellation happens over 14 days before the start of the course, you will be charged 20% of the full course fee. The fee will be 20 euros at minimum (excl. a sick leave that has been verified by a doctor’s note, and it prevents you from attending the full course).
- If cancellation happens less than 14 days before the start of the course, the full course fee will be charged (excl. a sick leave that has been verified by a doctor’s note, and it prevents you from attending the full course).

- Enrollment does not expire even if you do not pay the course fee. Course fees are collectable (Law n:o 706/207).
- Payments will be refunded via the method that they were paid (for example bank account, debit card, credit card etc.).
- If you cannot attend the course yourself, you can find someone else who can take your place on the course. In this case you do not have to pay any cancellation fees.
- The Summer University is not responsible for the functionality of the students’ equipment. The course fee will not be refunded if a student cannot attend the course due to connection or technical issues.
- If you cannot attend a free course or an event, you still have to cancel your enrollment. If you do not cancel your attendance, a 20-euro processing fee will be charged.
